Lyric discussion by Brettchen

The song is about god, and about how it's futile to seek him out, because in the end it is *he who finds you. "You" in this song is mankind, as well as every single individual.

Das Meer <- the dead sea. the morning refers to the early roots of monotheism.

Silberner Fisch <- Christ. Dead, obviously, sparking emotion through his death.

Das Haus auf dem Fels <- Christian church. Referring to how Christ told Peter he was the rock upon which he would build the church. The Basement is the original christian movement, the rooms are the catholic, protestant, and orthodox church, probably also islam, and the (small)chambers are the various smaller sects.

The next verse refers to the various attempts of mankind to make god tangible or interpret his will. "Disciples" like the author of John's gospel, and many other authors try to find words describing god, Artists try to paint god. Judges rule claiming to follow gods will. But in the end, they are just as clueless as to what god really is.

"nun zählst Du die Tage und Wochen" <-- probably refers to the christian calendar.

Hexen und Magier <- pretty self-explanatory. they claim to command part of gods power or the power to make *him visible. So they are false prophets. They have to learn how to "search" for god just like everybody else.

The final verse encourages mankind (and each individual) not to abandon the search, to live up to its potential. There are no miracles to be expected, because god will be "silent", but when the right time comes, *he will show himself. It's basically the theophilical agnostic's stance, with a little corinthians 13 strewn in. The god-human relationship is depicted as slightly paternal, but mostly very playful (in a rather positive way), making God a benevolent, fatherly friend, who is above such earthly concepts as religion, or even human perception and thought. Though not as thematically obvious, it's probably StS's most religious/spiritual song.
