I grew up on this movie. Like Rudolph and Frosty and The Grinch, it played yearly for many, many years. It's a gorgeous piece of music with such a simple melody and theme. We are each born into this world blank slates. On our slates our parents, relatives, friends, and strangers will write. And the rest is up to us. We each choose where we are the most comfortble and hopefully it's where we flourish mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We usually judge ourselves harder than others, and only remember the harsh words (or difficult ones we would rather not hear). In the end, we hopefully made a life filled the best choices for us, as individuals. God is the final judge.
What someone else thinks about us only matters as much as we allow. The feminist movement had two stand-out proclamations, with the first being about a woman and a fish, while the second held even more merit: "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
We are never free from responsiblity, but we can choose where we feel the most comfortable (free). No one can take that from us, but us...
