I don't understand how some people think songs like these are literal. He's not talking about actual floods or islands, but rather what's in your head.

The island is your conglomeration of beliefs that you hold to and stand firm in. But as time goes on you see that what you have clung to is perhaps based on fallacies, discrepancies, or not based in reality.

But the last stanza says that there is that lonely seed, which is a brand new island that is going to be the real fortitude that lasts. Kind of like baby teeth, you cling to your first set of teeth for awhile but they slip away until something more permanent and reliable/mature comes in. Stupid analogy, I know. But it works.

Then again, due to the semi-pessimistic mood of the song, he just dismisses the seed because he has no desire. Eh punks will be punks.

I don't understand how some brainiac think this songs cannot be literal,you dont have to be a rocket genius to interpret this..most br song tends to be metaphoric, i know that,but it doesnt mean we can't interpret it based on our own views and experiences and at least for me,it hit the righ spot.

@stayfluffy i totally agree and i like the way you put it. i think, also, the dismissal of the seed is more significant than a pessimistic throwaway.
