Off Wiki: Around the time of song's release, Townshend explained its meaning in an interview with Rolling Stone: "Quite loosely, "The Seeker" was just a thing about what I call Divine Desperation, or just Desperation. And what it does to people. It just kind of covers a whole area where the guy's being fantastically tough and ruthlessly nasty and he's being incredibly selfish and he's hurting people, wrecking people's homes, abusing his heroes, he's accusing everyone of doing nothing for him and yet at the same time he's making a fairly valid statement, he's getting nowhere, he's doing nothing and the only thing he really can't be sure of is his death, and that at least dead, he's going to get what he wants. He thinks!"

I may be totally off line and trapped inside my own head, but the line about death is actually stating he can only find the truth about life after death, if there is such a thing, after he dies. If he wakes up, to whatever might be there waiting for him, then he will have found what he is seeking, a reason for living a life with values. If he does not become aware, them he will never know life is meaningless because he will no longer exist.
This is the basis for my entire philosophy of life, we cannot know...

This is the basis for my entire philosophy of life, we cannot know until we die -- so why make a big fuss. I choose to live my life as if it has value, but I am not going to hate snyone for believing different from me. It's not worth it. In the end, no matter what we believe, we will either be "there,," all in the same place, or we will be nowhere.
To me, The Seeker realizes this, and now he has to wait. Listen to "The Art of Dying" by Geirge Harrison. It too can give a different outlook on life..
Peace!
