Love this woman. Love this artist. Would have been the first in line to hear her sing if it had been possible. There was so much heart and soul (and spunk) in Big Mama Thornton, and she truly loved her craft. She made little money, and due to no copyright laws much of her music was taken (and made famous by others, including Elvis). This song is one of my favorites of her (other than her spirituals). It's about an "unlucky girl" who has a gin establishment and "the man" is after her for her illegal sales due to prohibitition (which was a dismal failure and helped make Joe Kennedy and kids a VERY wealthy and powerful family).
