Agreed the lyrics is flawed. I can read more of a sense of regret, of a yearning for a complete simple/happy outcome potentially. Yet the singer doesn't want to say or express any regret explicitly. She chose to put on a nonchalant facade to appear strong. It aches my heart. The current life might still be joyful and worth living but it's a world away from the one that you can spend with him/her. You don't know if it's true so you keep wondering
