It's my opinion that this song is about a young man's love for a woman. The woman, his love, seems to be moving; either away geographically or metaphorically. The first two stanzas represent the man's devotion to his partner and his eagerness to follow her wherever she goes. The third stanza, however, is the turning point for the subject of this song. He realizes that they are going two different places in life and that even though he loves her he has to let her make her own way.
