This is about addiction, the dark side.

aludes the the excesses of addiction.

He challenges his dark side to see if it is capable of coping with real life,
which he knows it can't.
"With a gun up in your hand
All your heat is canned"
Aludes to the dangers of addiction, and how the thrill of addiction is not genuine,
like "canned" laughter (the laughter added my TV productions in comedies).
This is a genuinely great piece of work by Ian Brown, and for me, The Wolrd is Yours
is Ian at his peak with masterful lyrics.
