I believe the song is about a young man who is a soldier. He reflects the things he has seen and now everything he sees reminds him of the horrible things he has experienced as a soldier. He has to constantly remind himself of how this is actually happening and that he is not dreaming. The chorus is about a message he sends to someone he loves, and how he promises to come back. In the end, the "We come to honor" segment (my favourite part of the song). He realizes that he is fighting for his country and "fuels the fire in his eyes".
