I love this song. That said, it also creeps me out and haunts me. It doesn't help that I watched "The Road" for the first time before hearing this song. If you have not seen the video for this song, please do yourself a service (favor?) and watch. John Hillcoat adds his usual desolate and foreboding edge to the piece. Death, punishment, and solitude looms and hangs over every note and breath of this song. Mariqueen Maandigs perfect voice coupled with the screeches and plonks of innovative tech and antique instruments is brilliant. I'm not sure of the motivation and exact meaning behind this, but if it was to etch its melody in my brain and make me give shadows a second glance...good job.
