"A deadly serenade" refers to the song, played by the protagonist's twin brother* Robert, right after he murders one of their relatives. It's a dirge composed by their mother on her cello after their young sister dies, and you can hear it all across this album. The song name "Silverthorn" has two meanings, direct and allegory: Direct - their mother named her diamond cello bow Silverthorn, the very bow Robert used to murder the protagonist's wife Aurora (Falling Like the Farenheit). Allegory - When you get stabbed in the heart by a thorn, it doesn't matter if it's made of silver; you still bleed to death. Same way as a rich, upper class family can still suffer, and eventually collapse, from the same problems as a regular one.

*(possibly his split personality; Kamelot is purposely vague about this!)
