I've never understood why he hates everything about somebody and still wants to be around that person

The singer from this band was an OxyCotin addict, and in many of the band's songs he talked about this situation (his feelings, rehab, etc). I think this is one of those songs, but idk for sure. Seems like it, because someone may hate what a drug turns them into, but they loved it since the moment they first took it (the pleasant effects the drug has).

Another possibility for this song is an abusive relationship topic. You know, it's hard for a children with a violent father (this is just an example) to just hate him. It's a very complex situation, especially if the child is very young and not capable of understanding much.
