Personally I think it has more to do with catastrophic situations rather than being a salute to the military. All the things about hurricanes, tidal waves, skies falling, rivers evaporating, and even dying, and always the line 'we're safe and sound' repeats. I saw the video of the dancing people as well, but to me it just seemed more like a, 'we're safe from all the bad things happening in the world right now' sort of thing. Plus, the lyrics seem to be more fitting for one person talking to another in a loving way, basically saying that as long as they have each other, they're safe and sound from the world. The lyrics don't seemed aimed at the protection of the military at large.
But of course, that's just my opinion.
