This is one of my favorite songs on the album and there's one thing I feel a lot of people failed to notice... I'm currently reviewing the entire Rush chronology and evaluating how styles evolve throughout their career and I realized that this song succeeds Need Some Love. It's a bit of a "duh" moment, but I hear this song and realize it's a response, that the narrator of each song isn't necessarily Geddy. The narrator of Take a Friend may or may not be Geddy, but he seems to be responding to the narrator in Need Some Love. He states "I said you need a friend. Someone who'll stick with you to the end" and that can be seen as a suggestion to the previous song's narrator that a platonic relationship is often more satisfying and longer lasting than a romantic one.
