Cover art for Witness lyrics by Screaming Trees

He clearly asks whose God is his God and then he asks if any God has a witness, a witness who has seen this God which would prove that this God exists. He is need of believing God, because he understands everyone dies alone which is making him feel lonely, but he can't find any proof for the existence of a God which is destroying him.

He wants God to prove its existence, as in the end he says "shine". Asking God to shine its "light" is about asking God to prove its own existence, thus saving him from his "darkness". The lonely light refers God being one and so God being lonely. If God would shine its lonely light on him, he would find proof and relief to believe in God. He is ready for it. It might also mean he is ready to be taken away by God.

He feels he has no one, but he might only have God if exists. They are both lonely. Holding the mirror and taking down with him mean the same as they both suggest to show God how both of them are lonely.

I but couldn't figure out what does he mean with "i told a lie, that's what i said, i told the one you know i'll always keep".

The rest are just clearly to express how grim his situation is for the main theme of being lonely, dying and not knowing what happens afterlife.

Very good song.
