Here And Now Lyrics

My opinion of this song is that of a belated love, someone who has been strung along and played by a girl (or guy, whatever) for their own personal gain and they have finally gotten the courage up to say "look, where do i stand" to the person.

This fear has me chilled down to the bone And I have been haunted by these things I still have left to say I'm weary of fighting this alone So tired of holding on to strings much better left to fray

--To me this says that they have come to the realisation that their feelings will never be reciprocated by the other party, the theme of being tired shows that this isn't a short term lust, but something that has spanned months, perhaps years. The line "Holding onto strings much better left to fray" (excellent choice for the album title btw..) shows that Shaun acknowledges the fact that it would probably be better just to let go and move on.

And I said Hear me now here and now I'm calling Memories wear me down And this seems so complicated When all I want is just the truth

--The chorus is simple, the singer is tired and just wants out but before he can get out he wants the answers he deserves.

I'm wilted and faded after all Too strung out and burnt out to be half the man that I could be I'll never belong inside your world So black out the sun and leave me to play out the same old tragedy

--The unreturned feelings have taken their toll on the singer (as they do...), he becomes depressed and unenthusiastic about every day life. He acknowledges the fact that he knows he and the unnamed girl will never have a life together, from prior experience perhaps (same old tragedy) and just wants to move on in peace, without being led on again. "Strung out" is an interesting choice for the phrase, the double meaning being that strung out means tired and worn out but also "stringing along" is a term (in Britain at least) for using somone, leading them on etc for your own personal gain. Being strung out could mean that he is through with being used.

And I said Hear me now here and now I'm calling Memories wear me out And this seems too complicated When all I want is just the truth

Hear me now here and now I'm calling Memories wear me out And this seems too complicated When all I want is just the truth

You're my savior after all Use your flame to guide me home And then lay your hand on me

--I disagree with the biblical theme as a point, but the concept i believe remains the same. The singers devotion to this individual is so high that the thought of her gets him through the day, he sees her as a sort of personal messiah, and all he longs for is her to accept his advances (lay your hand on me) and make him happy. (Laying on hands in the biblical sense was synominous with healing of the sick, the singer has implied that he is a broken man in the previous verse. Her finally making him a part of her life would make him happy and whole, thus "healing him")

And I said Hear me now here and now I'm calling Memories wear me down And this seems so complicated When all I want is just the truth

Hear me now here and now I'm calling Memories wear me out And this seems too complicated When all I want is a part of you

--The final word change and its connotations needs no explanation in my opinion, he is desperately in love with someone who is using him.
