"Flash, flash, television Give me a new religion" Religion seems to be a topic that is discussed quite a lot on several different TV programs. Anything from news reports, to comedy, to drama... religion is all over the place. Even in commercials.

"This is me; I love myself Yeah, fuck everyone else I don't need nobody's help" Possibly the 'narrator' of the song feels abandoned and is retaliating; or this person is very self confident.

"Up, up on the screen I got a new disease Cha-ching for your soul" The part about the screen could be referring to the stock market, or the debt, or anything doing with fiance. I think this because of 'cha-ching for your soul' which is referencing money in my opinion. The 'I got a new disease' could be talking about how everyone is obsessed with money, and it appears to be all about money now in their opinion.

"Of the apocalypse" Some people do believe that the world is going to end this year, 2012. There are several groups who think 2012 is the year of the apocalypse.

"This is the dawning of personal belonging" Could be referencing several things; my ideas are possibly it could be referencing religion, beliefs, philosophy, nationality, ethnic, race, etc. It might be talking about what you really feel is important, your personal opinion and what you consider yourself a part of. An example is that many Christians feel a sense of belonging to their church and their religion. Another example is how people from a certain country personally feel they are a part of the people of their nation, that it's where they themselves belong - these people are their 'group' that they belong too.

"With sirens and violins" Sirens could be referring to emergency help/responders (such as police, firefighters, EMTs - so cop cars, firetrucks, ambulances) especially in a big city or in a place that a disaster/tragedy has recently occurred. Or it could refer to sirens such as tornado sirens that go off to warn about ... well, tornados. So it could be talking about sirens for natural disasters. It could even refer to sirens warning of an air raid (if those still exist ... xD). As for violins, my thought is of the rumor/legend that Nero (a Roman emperor for those who don't know), played a violin while his city burned. He just sat and played a violin and did not try to help, just responded with music. It was said that he might have actually started the fire himself. But anyways, Nero was a Roman emperor who persecuted Christians & Jews, and is sometimes associated with the apocalypse. "Non-Christian historian Tacitus describes Nero extensively torturing and executing Christians after the fire of 64." (From Wikipedia's article on Nero). This adds to my idea that he was associated with the apocalypse because he was killing Christians (which could be seen as apocalyptic from their point of view) and the speculation that he was playing the violin during the fire, which could be viewed as mental insanity (also apocalyptic to some). "Some 2nd- and 3rd-century theologians, among others, recorded their belief that Nero would return from death or exile, usually as 'the Anti-Christ. He is also seen as one of the most savage persecutors of Christians.'" (From Wikipedia as well). This supports my thoughts again, because the Anti-Christ can easily be associated with the apocalypse.

"This is the eve of 'I don't believe'" Could be a reference to religion and the lack thereof / having no religious beliefs or views / not believing in any gods or other god-like & holy beings.

That's pretty much my perception of the song. I've been listening it for a long time, over a year at least... and this is what I've come to perceive as the meaning of the song over the expanse in time of listening to this.

My Interpretation

Darn. Posted it twice! D: Sorry!
