The song is either straightforward, about the death of a loved one, or, the option I prefer, its maybe about someone saying good bye to their hopes and dreams that she had as a child - the little sister is herself, and she's giving up on her hopes and dreams; saying that that child inside has died, and she's sending her to the other side, which seems better than "the void called life" that she's mired in. She keeps hearing her dreams calling, but knowing they're dead, by 'sending them to the other side', she keeps them pure and sort of saves that innocent younger self from the tainted, hopeless world she now lives in.
