Diminished

Well, I had a more eloquent interpretation but it was lost and I'm out of both time and patience. Here's what I think:

It's about depression, sorrow, or drug addiction, causing a person to allow their life to waste away. Something is "diminishing" this person.

"Should it be so hard to have a nice day?"
