It sounds kind of like the band's reflection on themselves- they used to be full of anger and attitude, barking out their culture and politics all over the paper, loving to be hated, whilst now they're just another rock band churning out entertainment for the masses- not the ideology, just music. It's like a statement of 'what went wrong?'
Although still vastly superior to anything else on the current market, I was quite disappointed in Postcards. Some brilliantly fun tracks like It's Not War, but overall not Manic-y enough. I know it was all 'one last shot at mass communication' and that they were trying to go for 'big radio hits with this one', but I mean seriously- a female backing choir?!
You can forget I said that. Postcards has grown on me considerably since then and it's now one of my favorites. And actually quite Manic-y when you look at the lyrics. Nicky's venom has just switched from politics to the internet.
