Maybe it's just because of my experience but it seems like she's not really into that person. It's when she says "victims of circumstance" and also "a tragedy brings misery and misery brings company". Seems like it was a previous failed relationship that got them together. So when she say's "my heart may never beat again" I'm not shure if she's talking to the actual person of the failed relationship or to the previous one. Anyway, I like to think of it like this :) Great song!
