This is a song about Sirius talking to Mary. At the end of Vic the Butcher the All Mother tells Sirius he is not well, but yet he continues on. Each time he extracts an entity, it takes a part of his life as well. He thinks he is about to die, and that's where the chorus comes in, it's what he is saying to Mary. I wish she'd stay mine, but her place is in some other time" i think this means that the love from Mary is keeping him going, but he knows he has been gone to long and she has probably found another love interest. (which she has in good night fair lady) he knows that Mary won't be waiting for him when he gets back "bodies separating, sit and release... reaching desperately to salvage anything" Like i said, he thinks he is about to die, thats why he keeps saying 'goodbye forever' but Mary is also saying to him "You won't be forgotten" because he is the only person who sought out to learn about the keywork and she will always love him, but she can't wait for him to get back
