I think it's about abused people. In order to feel empowered when confronted with pain, they have to feel anger.. and that can get out of hand.
The other day a girl rejected me, i was nice about it. but as the fear and negativity crept in, i proceeded to throw a chair across the bar...
i think rage happens because it's our body saying "get over that obstacle" and a heavily tortured person prefers it to fear "danger, run." or sadness "re-attach to object".
one might say "I'm not afraid of you and i'm not going to go after that object again!" by overcoming both emotions with...

Rage is given control by the abused.. like selling our soul, our free will, for a way out of our feelings and past.
