Lyric discussion by lisaesprit

Judging from the song title and lyrics, the song seems to be about two people who have conflicting views on something, and how it feels when one doesn't agree with another person.

"Overhead and underfoot If you cut it down then you will never know I laid my guts out on the table Laid my guts out and you said no You got a wrong opinion Wrong opinion"

The singer has poured her heart and mind out and given a good argument with points to support her perspective - but the other person has simply shut her down, and offered her no sound counterargument. Instead, they can only offer a simple "No, I do not agree with you".

"If you don't get it You don't get to have it"

The singer is saying that if the other person can't even understand the logic behind her opinion, then perhaps this person doesn't deserve to share the same insight or knowledge that the singer holds. Their adamant refusal to understand or consider all the facts that lie "overhead and underfoot" mean that they will never know the truth in the end.

"If you don't get it it's fine by me Because I see sun I see sun"

Not worth getting angry over the other person's ignorance over the issue - at the end of the day, the singer has the facts and knows that her opinion is true and correct.

"Over the counter underground And through the world that you will never know But to stay and contemplate could make you late"

The singer is saying that the other person hasn't even bothered to take the time to learn the facts or assess the situation for what it is, and so they will never know the real truth.

"So you take a photo You got a wrong opinion"

Instead they "take a photo" of the situation. This seems to imply that because the person has not taken the time out to properly learn the facts of the situation, he or she only possesses a narrow and limited view of the situation. The metaphor of a photo refers to how photos are only able to show single moments from single perspectives, and how they are not necessarily a true representation of an event or place (because they can only capture things from one angle).

"Yeah the leaves grow where light goes"

The singer feels that her opinion is simply an undebatable fact, just how we all know for a fact that leaves which receive light are going to grow.

"I see the sun rising over the edge Did you miss it or ignore it I see beginning where you see the end"

The "sun rising" refers to the facts that support her opinion. The singer is emphasising her frustration over how the other person can't see it from her point of view when the facts are clearly right there in front of them. So whilst the singer can see quite clearly that a sun rise does exist, the other person catches only the end of it, and could therefore easily argue that sun rises don't exist because he/she hasn't given themselves the chance to look at the evidence that suggests the contrary.
