I feel that the song is spoken from the point of view of a veteran who was formerly content with his rights and freedom in the united states. But now he is on his search for a better freedom. He feels that he can not see the "end of the road for freedom". I believe at one point he contacts his state senator and gives them his grievances. The next part describes him essentially killing his senator and his representatives. I have no clue as to whether or not he means this as the man described actually killed them and is living as a fugitive or if the man described told the secretary his grievances and she got nervous that someone had caught on to their "scheme". If it is the latter of the two he then gives an analogy about how our freedoms are limited and the man does this to multiple representatives and the analogy is that he is basically considered a fugitive in society because his ideas contradict the mainstream thoughts. At which point his freedom of speech is infringed upon that he feels he is being persecuted for his beliefs. This does not phase the man as he will do whatever it takes to preserve his rights. The final lines mean that he has traveled this road to freedom for so long that the sun has set on his freedoms and he either no longer cares or knows how far he has gone on his quest for freedom. This song is simply amazing. Full of intelligence and the music itself is very pleasing. Good job Tom and keep doing this kind of work.
