The thing is is that nowhere in the song does it say that they are the last people alive. It appears that the earth is dying and they're also trying to escape oppressive policies (fed up with rules and regulations). So I can't agree with the idea that they're the last ones left. Also, even with a handful of people, you wouldn't stand much of a chance of extending the human race beyond about 45 or 6 generations due to inbreeding.
