These lyrics are so beautiful, and I can relate to them so much.
I think that this is about two people loving each other. Friends, family or lovers, doesn't matter. It's two people that has a beautiful relationship, but it's also taking a lot of energy from them both, because they both have difficulties in life which tends to hurt the other one. Therefore they constantly keep leaving each other, to not hurt the other one, and to not get hurt. At the same time they need each other to survive.

To me this is how one of them finally has decided that they can't keep on like this, and s/he knows s/he won't come back. S/he does it with confidence since s/he thinks the other person can survive it. That person might be suicidal, but has every reason to live, and the person leaving is sure that this will make life easier.
But yeah, this is just my opinion, and I developed it while in a similar situation, so it might actually be about rabbits, or whatever.
