Like most of Joey's songs about Derrick, I can relate from every perspective. The friend (Joey), the addict (Derrick)... The mind of this addict has had the conversation in the song with itself many times. I find it comforting to have a voice in my head like Joey's in this song - empathetic, but brutally honest. Many times in my life I've wanted to give up and just stop trying, but songs like this remind me that I'm not alone. It's kept me alive.
