The metaphor works so well with my drug (mis)use, combined with the fact that my job consists of me driving around in my beater of a car hoping it'll keep running another month without a new problem showing up... It touches on my guilt for wasting my life, my frustration with the issues that get in my way merely because I ignore problems.
