This song is about the Weston Insane Asylum, which is also called the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. It was in operation from 1864 until 1994 and housed many emotionally disturbed men and women. Our lead guitarist, Tony Rohrbough, worked their as an orderly for a year or so before it shut down. The story is that the building, which has 5 sides, has 5 faces carved in stone, done by an inmate. The faces are of various stages of delirium, hence the term Five Faces of Madness. The asylum is now a tourist attraction for paranormal activity groups. The band rehearses at Rohrbough's home in Weston, and can look directly down the hill upon the Weston Asylum.
And yes, there are 4 lines which reference "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"...
There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
This song is sung from the viewpoint of an inmate who has went mad
And yes, there are 4 lines which reference "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"...
There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
This song is sung from the viewpoint of an inmate who has went mad
