it feels like the person he cared about is depressed to me. when he says bring them back to "life" it doesn't seem like he means literally bring them back from the dead. but you know how it goes with depression, so i think that's what he means. "it's impossible to know what you need when you seem so emotionless" really gives off that vibe as well. maybe that's just me but it's what i take from this song, could also be about someone addicted to drugs so they are like really far gone and all, but i feel more like the whole dead inside via depression seems a better fit
