I would have never figured out myself this song could be about drugs, probably because I've never experienced drug addiction myself. I agree that such interpretation makes sense, but I see it differently. To me this song is about a few things that create a certain state of mind. Firstly, she trusted somebody ("with an open hurt"), who was not worth of that trust ("till I woke up on the concrete", "I was in the dark", "read the stars so wrong") and she was tricked ("not everything you see ain't always what it seems"). Secondly, she realized she was wrong and manages to end it, but what makes it even harder is she is aware she felt happier while being wrong, which causes her to feel anxious ("Thunder rumbling/Castles crumbling/I'm trying to hold on"). It's clear to me that that "phase of being wrong yet happy" lasted for a longer time, she made many decisions basing on delusions ("I wish I knew then/What I know now/Wouldn't dive in/Wouldn't bow down"). It's a state of mind when she knows she survived something that left scars on her, but she doesn't feel victorious at all.
