I can't relate to my interpretation, but the first time I listened to Candles, this is the connection I made: "Scared I'll be torn apart by a wolf in mask of a familiar name on a birthday card" made me think of her father. Someone that sends her cards on her birthday, but really isn't in her life except for a bad memory. Her father, a wolf, sending her cards. "You're too old to be so shy" I really feel like her father must have abused in her some way. As she grew older, she didn't want to be intimate with any guy because of her father. The person calling her shy in this song is someone that wants to be with her, is pushing her to finally have sex with him. "Like we're in a crime scene" would help my case out of context, but to be honest it really doesn't. That just describes the way they are with each other. The third verse makes me think she has secrets, she doesn't speak and stops herself from achieving her goals because of her father. She's learned from what happened to her, even when she is cursed and hurt and really hates her father. The last bit, "I'll never be your lover" is her explaining her intimacy issues and how she'll have sex, but she'll never really trust him or love him.

My Interpretation

I love your interpretation though i think the "like we're in a crime scene" would fit in the context quite well, weaving in with the rest of that theme of abuse - she perceives sex as a dirty and wrong thing and so it sort of describes the way she sees it (different to anybody who was wholeheartedly in love with the other).
