It sounds like a long distance relationship. He probably flies by night, and there's a time zone difference, hence the line, "and tomorrow's still a night away." The song definitely sounds a little conflicted, which leads me to believe that maybe he's considering breaking up with her. "It's late and I just wanna go home." And it's not because he doesn't love her, because he clearly does, he dreams about her and he doesn't want her to leave him. I got a lot of this from the last verse, which I think is a metaphor for the strain of the long distance. He has a place in her heart, but it's been "boarded" because he can't handle the lifestyle. I don't know.

My Interpretation

Great interpretation. Ya know what's funny? I know someone who thinks he loves someone and thinks she's his long distance girlfriend, but he never did and never will. Ah, the human male is a fascinating creature, although quite boring at times.
