This song means a lot to me. I'm going into my senior year of high school and I just started the process of applying to college, so I've been thinking a lot about my future lately and I'm terrified of the unknown. And I don't think many people ever really figure out what it is that they want out of life. To me, the first verse of this song says just that. It also plays on this idea of introspection. We all yearn to take a lesson from our past, to reach into that child-like imagination where there are no borders. We can be anything we want to be, right? And children certainly know what they want out of life then because they have yet to meet the "restrictions" of reality. The chorus is a little pessimistic to me, and it's pretty self-explanatory. As we age the world opens up to us. We go from being confined to our yards, to our blocks, then to our towns, and eventually we reach the age where we're free to go anywhere, and when we hit that point we realize that maybe the world isn't as big as we thought it was. Everything's fine until it questions the state of happiness. A lot of thinks can stall happiness. Taxes, bills, family expenses, and economics in general prevent us from taking the chances and doing things that will make us truly happy. "The grounds moving under me, but to where?" suggest that life can lead us to places we could never expect. For some reason I think that Ms. Suzie might have been his teacher, and he's apologizing for acting like an idiot in her class, like kids often do. "I wanna see you again" could be referring to a friend of his from his childhood. I think we all have someone that we used to know, who we would love to just catch up with and talk about how life has been since we've parted ways with them. It's a song about coming to age I guess.
