Not a huge fan of the band (in fact, to date I have heard just 2 tracks I actually liked). This song seems to be about wanting to go through life alone (or at least alone during a certain period in ones life). Seems less about independence and more about mistrust. (ie "Now no ones been invested in how no one knows whats best for him")
