Coldwater Morning Lyrics

this is a comment on a failed/folded relationship. One, knowing I'm one, hearing of two, is saying he is alone and hearing of the new relationship. This follows through with the talk of loneliness, when you laugh, the night alone will hear and the night don't care... then comes the awakening, the cold water morning. And yes, those of us who are in relationships we know are doomed will know the feeling I've been waiting so long for you. there is such overwhelming sadness in this song, it cuts to the very heart. So I reversed the trend and wrote a medieval love story which follows the theme of the song and in the end, the couple are reunited.

My Interpretation

Your analysis makes sense. Yet I wonder if the song is also making reference to a place where Neil Diamond (or someone else he was writing about) may have lived in 1970 when the song was being composed -- near Coldwater Canyon in the Los Angeles area?
