JAMES WELDON JOHNSON ( 1871—1938) the American author, politician, diplomat, critic, journalist, poet, anthologist, educator, lawyer, songwriter, and early civil rights activist wrote the poem "Sence You Went Away". I believe that it was included in Johnson's "The Book of American Negro Poetry" published in 1922. It's been set to music and recorded by several artists including the eminent Paul Robeson sometime between 1928-1939".
Seems like to me, thath Kris Delmhorst has done the best of anyone in capturing the feeling of that poem. Her phrasing, intonation and guitar work simply cannot be improved on.
