I think this song is about ignoring things that you have to let go off, like a relationship which has come to an end but you don't want to let go of what you had and you might still be in love with the person that hurt you.
People keep saying that "his time will come" and that he will find what he needs but he doesn't want to let go from the past or a certain someone and instead rather wants to hide "under the covers", "in his head" and "hold the breath", signalising that he or she is not ready for what's to come and wants back the old life so badly.
I've been in such a position before and that's how I interpret this song anyways - maybe, especially because of what happened back then.
