I like this song. Catchy, and infused with pride and a bit of brash craziness.
The songs seems to be about person A who likes person B ("everything I've ever done, I've done because of you"). At some point, A was trying to please or get the attention of B (at least subconsciously) but eventually gave up and walked away from B. However, A was disappointed that B let him/her walk away ("how could you let me walk away?").
Maybe A was not admitting to him/herself that A was really into B. Who knows. However, it seems A looked pretty silly to others for having those feelings, so silly some thought it was a joke ("Now the people that I used to know all laugh behind my back they think that it's some kind of joke"). Either that, or A's friends think A was an idiot for thinking B would be interested, but I doubt that given my next thought.) A is now going back in earnest to win B's interest ("Yeah, this is what I have to do.
I let my freak flag fly"). A is confident this is worth it, since A thinks B had already recognized A's interest ("And why d'you keep pretending when you knew it all along?").
A is going to show everyone that his/her feelings are no joke, s/he'll be as outrageous as s/he wants to be and as natural as it comes. "I'll let my freak flag fly." Go for it person A!
