Unfortunately, To The 5 Boroughs is not a very popular album by the Beastie Boys. It is because of all the political references. To live in NYC at that time, it was probably pretty tough not to talk about 9/11 & Bush. But the Beasties' opinion didn't match the opinion that our mainstream media told us to have about the situation. So, a lot of "fans" stopped listening. At that time, it was considered un-American to openly disagree with the war. Today, people still get kinda pissed. By the time The 5 Boroughs came out, plenty of other artists' careers were destroyed because of their opinions years earlier. They were pretty brave to risk so much to say this stuff. Luckily for the Beasties, the mainstream media had turned their backs years ago so I don't think many people cared. I happen to agree with their stance. A message of peace has never pissed of people before, why should it in this case? I think that is a question worth asking. I think it's a great album. Not their best, but still great. I think the lyrics are awesome. I think 5 Boroughs is just missing the instrumentals & more alternative type stuff heard on the previous 3 or 4 albums.
