I think that this is describing a scenario where people wage holy wars over whose god is "real" and whose religious views are "correct." As a result, whichever God or gods DO in fact exist have stopped believing in US as opposed to the issue being typically worded the other way around: whether or not WE believe in God or gods. Because the gods are so disgusted with our behavior, they come down to wipe out and damn EVERYBODY even the ones who believed in the "correct" gods. That's my take on this one.

However, I do believe that two people who are more alike in the most detrimental ways could stand a good snuggle. I wish you were here to tuck me in!
