This song is indirectly about institutional racism, and how when you come to a country like the USA you will be treated as someone who is less important, less qualified, less civilized, etc. Immigrants and refugees in this country are met with hostility, because white people act as though they feel threatened by them for various reasons that are both senseless and hurtful. White people believe they have something to lose through treating all people fairly, and this song touches on a very difficult and important subject -- if you are different, ethnically or culturally, you will be treated differently by white people.
