This is how I hear the lyrics. This song seems very much to be about life and the perspective we take on it. Avey loves to use nature as metaphor for all he writes about, which is where I think a lot of AC’s brilliance comes from them with their almost naive nature themes yet complex music structures. This song is no different. Hive-world, bees-us. Thus I think there is a spiritual element to this song as Avey has suffered some losses and battles in recent years, he no doubt has been down and this songs seems almost as though he’s resigned to certain things and the way of life. Almost an acceptance song with lines such as ‘you won’t go ‘why?’, simply saying not to question things, knowing that if he does good (‘fill up your heart’) things will work out (‘you’ll find everything inside the heart on top of the hive’). Also an interesting element to the song as another old trick of AC’s with the changing of words and lines based on their sound — think sports brother/support your brother etc. Each one of their bridges seem to get more trying, perhaps similar to how life gets more difficult with age. Going from ‘kicking mole hills’ to ‘kicking boulders’ to ‘can’t control us’.
