I think it's a song about a woman killing her husband for financial gain. The song is sang by the husband (from beyond the grave). If you assume the husband was somebody famous and well received by the community, it supports this theory even more.

The line about effigies could refer to protesters outside the woman's house because they believe she killed him. The first verse refers to a police investigation while she pretends to mourn her husband by writing his eulogy.

There's also stuff about a Mortician and how she has money. Perhaps the fact that the money talks could be referencing her trying to cover up the murder by bribing people, or something of the like. But most of the other lines hint towards the fact that she will regret murdering the guy, and she'll begin to miss him.
