This was my first favorite song by them. There could be a couple different meanings to it if you listen closely and really think about it.
It could mean that the person screwed him over and really hurt him and he's done with them for good and won't come back.
It could mean that the person hurt him and he left by the way it sounds and him saying technically that "you hurt me so it's over" kind of thing.
He says "and it's true I hurt too, remember I loved you" as if he had left the person and it may have hurt them but it hurt him too.
The fact that the end of the song says "seems like all we have is over now YOU LEFT TO REST, and my tears are dried up now YOU JUST LAY WITHOUT A SOUND", I'm thinking maybe after they broke up she may have committed suicide or something.
That's just my guess as to what it could mean but I think I may have done a pretty good job. I love this song so much because I have some personal experience with it. Also, because it's really beautiful.
