Oh. Major, major mistake here as I did not mention that the child is more so metaphor for the narrator seeing the man as a child. Obviously children are never left and exiled...it's a hurtful jab to the subject meaning that "I'm sorry, I can no longer hold your hand and baby step you" for you must do it yourself.
