Even with the optimistic message "I'm not religious/But I Feel moved and loved/It makes me want to pray that you'll always be here!/Nothing Fails!" Except that Guy wasn't there for Madonna when she needed him most and that makes Nothing Fails poignant, sad and heartbreaking. Taylor Swift may have written her first hit Teardrops on My Guitar but here, Madonna means because along with her sad and beautiful voice, her black acoustic guitar is equally sad! I was moved and touched when Madonna sang and played Nothing Fails during the Reinvention Tour but for now, Nothing Fails is too sad and harrowing to sing and cry. (Perhaps that's why she's not playing it during MDNA?) Nothing Fails-a beautiful song about a friendship too desperate and beautiful to last.
