I was reading about the poet Joseph Brodsky when i noticed that the two words of this song appeared in one of his poems:
'I was practically blind.
You, appearing, then hiding,
Gave me my sight and heightened it.'
Brodsky had written it when his femme fatale lover,Marina Basmanova, had left him. His other poems describe Basmanova appearing as an apparition coming back to haunt him.
Perhaps this song refers to one's past lover returning to him/her as a ghost, and he/she can't deal with their emotional past, so much so that he can't help but cry 'save me'.
