First off, I love this song. I love the way Chris used imagery in this song. As for the meanings, it's pretty straight forward. This song was written for the movie, "Machine Gun Preacher" about Sam Childers who used to be in a biker gang and now dedicates his life to helping children in Sudan and protect them from the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army). Often times protecting them by using force himself i.e. guns and/or arms. Basically the song is about Childers not letting anything get in his way and doing whatever it takes to protect them.
